The Red Post Inn and its present buildings date back to 1531 but there has been an Inn on this site since the 9th century. The Inn was occupied by Roundhead officers during the Civil War in 1643; the men slept in the camping field! It was also a centre for smuggling and those caught were publicly hanged where the red signpost now stands. The surrounding countryside is truly magnificent with country lanes abounding with flowers, birds and wildlife. It is just four miles to the unspoilt, wide, sandy beaches of Bude. An original coastal town with breakwater, river and canal, yet offering modern facilities including an indoor leisure pool with wave machine, riding stables, tennis and squash courts, putting green and a links golf course. First class coarse fishing is available on the Bude Canal. Tamar Lakes four miles to the north, offer both fly and coarse fishing. The lakes form part of a nature reserve and provide facilities for bird watching and photography.
